Johnson, LeMieux, DeGrave, and Ertel Feature Winners

by Joe Orsini

56 Cars and stars signed into the pits at John Miles Park in Sturgeon Bay. 16 of those cars were Stock Cars set to pull extra duty in the Busch Shootout presented by Flanigan Distributing, an extra $100 was also on the line for the shootout courtesy of The Hen House Bar and Grill. With that the stage was set for Kroll Machine and Fabrication Night to be a knock down, drag out brawl.

The Kroll Machine and Fabrication Stock Car main event opened with Jeremy Johnson grabbing the lead at the drop of the green. While Johnson set the pace, Scott Reinhardt worked into the runner up spot on lap 6. A late restart with six laps remaining saw Johnson lead Reinhardt, Barry “The Wildman” Van Straten, John Anschutz, and Tracy Koontz back to racing speeds. When the checkers flew it was Johnson hanging on for the win, Van Straten moved to second, Zach Spangenberg used the closing laps to grab third, Troy Muench fourth, and Anschutz was fifth. Point leader, Brett Wenzel, piloted his buttless Cutlass #0 to the win in the Busch Shootout and secured the 180 ice cold Busch Lights and the $100 cash for his efforts.

One week after being inducted into the hall of fame Rick LeMieux found himself on the pole position for the start of the T. Simon Jewelers Sport Mod feature event. When the green dropped the hall of famer wasted no time grabbing the lead. While LeMieux looked to check out on the field “Devilish” Doug Maurer worked into second place on lap 9. At the halfway mark LeMieux continued to lead while Maurer ran second, “The Ironman” Bernie Reinhardt was third, Gary Henkel fourth, and point leader, Craig Dorner, fifth. Dorner used the second half of the race to pad his point lead by moving to third on lap 16 and then into the runner up spot the following lap. Time expired before Dorner could reel in LeMieux and the hall of fame driver completed the storybook follow up to the previous week’s induction. Dorner settled for second, Maurer hung on for third, Randy LeMieux Jr. was fourth, and Reinhardt completed the top five.

The Millies Pub and Grub Unified Dirt Street Stock main event started with John Denil Jr. pacing the early circuits of the race. While Denil led, John Vetting moved into second but surrendered the spot to Bailey Laviolette on lap three. Three laps later Laviolette used the low line to squeeze past Denil into the lead. Last week’s feature winner, Matt “The Brat” Hanson, used a lap nine restart to get by Laviolette and into the top spot. Meanwhile “The Hammer” Dave DeGrave steadily climbed through the field from his P12 starting spot and that charge saw the 40D machine slide into second on lap 11, one lap later DeGrave muscled his way past Hanson and into the lead. DeGrave held on through some late race restarts and locked down the win. Laviolette crossed the line second, Vetting third, Racin’ Jason Geyer fourth, and Tyler Nettekoven rounded out the top five.

The Dykesville Bowl 4 Cylinder A-main saw Chase Ertel race into the early lead. Ertel never faced a serious challenge as he went on to lead every lap of the event and secure the win. Calvin Stueck was second, Scott Schlafke third, Dallas Topel fourth, and Missy Clark was fifth.
