64 cars rolled into the pits for the Kroll Machine and Fabrication Night at The Hill Raceway. Each driver looking to score another victory with the Sport Mod drivers hoping to cash in on a bonus trip to victory lane via the Busch Shootout courtesy of Flanigan Distributing.
The Woody’s Signs Stock Car feature event saw Dave Reinhardt lead the opening lap in his 2R machine. That lead was quickly contested as Dan Sell Sr. launched his 18X Ford to the high side and the pair battled side by side until flew on lap 7. The restart saw Reinhardt with the advantage as he led Sell, Jeremy Anschutz, Jeremy Johnson, and Scott Reinhardt back to racing speeds. Sell took advantage of the restart to grab the lead but Reinhardt would not be denied and challenged back on the low side as the duo, again, battled multiple laps side by side for the lead. Sell eventually cleared Reinhardt for good and tried to walk away from the field. Brett Wenzel had another plan as he worked his racer into 3rd by lap 16 and got by Reinhardt for 2nd and quickly challenged Sell for the top spot. Lap 19 saw Wenzel work inside Sell on the exit of turn four but Sell held the advantage at the line. The inside line worked into turn one as Wenzel appeared to complete the pass for the lead. Caution for the stopped and smoking car of Barry Van Straten in turn three though slowed the pace before the final lap could be completed. With Sell taking the white flag first he was determined the winner as the checkers and caution ended the race. Wenzel, who came into the night tied with Dan Sell Jr. for the points lead, settled for a good point night with second while the younger Sell suffered engine problems and retired from the event early. Reinhardt finished third, Anschutz fourth, and Mike “The Longest Yard” Pierrard completed the top five.
The Kroll Machine and Fabrication Northern Sportmod A main event saw “The Ironman” Bernie Reinhardt grab the lead from the front row at the drop of the green. As Reinhardt looked to pull away, Craig Dorner shot to 3rd from his row 4 starting spot by lap three. Lap 4 saw Dorner work inside Scott Howe to take 2nd and immediately went to work chasing down Reinhardt. Caution slowed the pace on lap 6 and Reinhardt led Dorner, Howe, Jeff “Pepe” Vlies, and Alec Wery back to green flag conditions. Dorner wasted no time and muscled past Reinhardt into the lead on lap 7. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way as Dorner notched his third consecutive win at the third mile speedway. Wery finished second, Vlies third, Andy Klosterman pulled off a last lap pass to grab fourth; and Reinhardt held on to finish fifth. Dorner wasn’t done with victory lane just yet as he also went on the win 180 cans of Busch Light courtesy of Flanigan Distributing in the Busch Shootout.
The Millies Pub and Grub Unified Dirt Street Stock main event opened the night’s features with Nathan Delsart jumping to the top spot at the drop of the green. Eddie “The Eagle” Anschutz quickly piloted his 71 machine to 2nd on lap three and then into the lead on lap four. Caution slowed the field on lap 6 and Anschutz held court over Delsart, Bailey Laviolette, Dan “The Mullet” Van Pay, and Amber Delsart. When the checkers flew Anschutz grabbed his second win in a row, Van Pay was second, Racin’ Jason Geyer third, Laviolette fourth, and “The Muscles From Brussels” Garrett Geyer survived an early trip down pit lane to come home fifth.
The 4 Cylinder A-main kicked off with Nick Everard leading the opening lap but had heavy pressure from both Nathan LeMay and Scott Schlafke. Everard and LeMay fell into a door to door fight for the top spot with Evard hugging the infield tires and LeMay hustling around the high side. Disaster struck for LeMay as the leaders encountered lap traffic as Everard went low and LeMay high to split the lap car. Contact with the slower car sent LeMay hard into the turn two wall and ended his night early. Everard would go on to cut a left front tire after surrendering the lead to Schlafke. Schlafke held on for his third win in a row while the birthday girl, Cheyenne Topel finished second, and Dillon Joskie was third.
The Hill Raceway is back in action next Saturday, July 13th, for the T. Simon Jewelers Night at the races. This special, added event will be a non points night. Racing starts at 6:00 and grandstand admission remains at an inflation busting 10 dollars!
